Join us for a Singapore Jewish Heritage tour with guide Sarah who is an active member of the Jewish community in Singapore. She was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel to a Baghdadi father and will share Jewish traditions, customs and the history of the Jews in Singapore.
The visit starts at Chessed El Synagogue where you will get a chance to meet with the Rabbi and see the old Baghdadi Torah Scrolls. This gazetted art deco style building was completed in 1905 and served as a private synagogue of Sir Menashe Meyer.
A public bus will then take us to the old Jewish neighborhood called the "Mahala" where we will learn about Jewish life and where some of its prominent residents such as David Marshall and Jacob Ballas used to live. We will get a chance to see the only two remaining Jewish buildings, the David Elias building constructed in 1928 and the Isaac Ellison Building dated 1924.
Our last stop will be the Maghain Avot Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Southeast Asia, built in 1878. The tour will end with a visit to the Jews of Singapore Museum and the Kosher shop in the adjacent Jacob Ballas building where we will hear more about Jewish traditional food and ingredients.

For security reasons final sign-up date is Sunday 7 April and all tour participants must provide their full name and the last 4 digits of their IC or Passport in order to be permitted to the Jewish Welfare premises.
On the day of the tour:
1. Please remember to bring your IC or a copy of your passport with you
2. Dress modestly: no shorts, cover shoulders if wearing spaghetti straps, etc.
3. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring an umbrella and water.
4.Bring a means to pay the public bus. You can use a bank or credit card
