Little India walking tour – In the Spirit of Deepavali
We will start our tour by walking along Racecourse road , see local murals and the Tan Teng Niah colorful house on Kerbau road built in the 1900 alongside the cattle and brick factories. The house was restored and conserved in the 1980s. Continue on Buffalo Road where we can see the fruits and vegetables vendors as well as the garland makers.
Stop at the Sri Veeramakaliaman temple built in the traditional South Indian Dravidian architecture style in 1855.
Visit the Tekka wet market, see the traditional saris, and sharwal kamiz outfits on the second level followed by refreshments break at the local Hawker Centre.
Cross Serangon Road to the Little India Arcade where we can visit the traditional Deepavali market set especially for the holiday of lights and see Henna making, sweet shops, oil lamps (Diyas) and rangolis.
We will have a short break near the Indian Heritage Centre where our guide will give us insights about the Deepavali holiday known as "Row of Lights" in Sanskrit.
Walk through the back streets where we can see vibrant street art by local artists and end our walking tour outside the Mustafa Centre on Syed Alwi Road.
