Event Details

Singapore's Central Business District (CBD) is known for its many banks and offices, but one can also see plenty of public art installations and even an underground mosque.

For this tour we will meet at the busy Raffles Place square outside the MRT station where we can see a first public artwork called "Progress and advancement" created by artist Yang Ying Feng representing the financial development of Singapore. From there our guide, Sarah Lev will take us on a walk along works by Henry Moore, by Columbian artist Fernando Botero and by renowned Spanish surrealist artist Dali. We will see a series of sculptures which are part of the "People of the River" series commissioned by STB located along the river such as "First Generation" by Chong Fah Cheong and "The River Merchants" by Aw Tee Hong.

There will be some history and architecture sprinkled in as well when we pass Cavenagh bridge on our way to Raffles' landing site, the Arts House (site of Singapore's first parliament) and the Queen Victoria Theatre and Memorial Hall built in 1903. If you want to know which statue of Raffles is the original, this is your tour!

The journey will end at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), a short walk away from Raffles Place. Feel free to join for lunch at your own expense after the tour at Café Privé at ACM.
